Peace On Earth, Goodwill Toward Men

Seeing as today is Remembrance Day, I felt it fitting to sigh, and shake my head in pity at the those overly naive people who strive for peace. Don't get me wrong, I'm forever grateful for those who gave their lives for freedom, but I am foremost a realist, and the reality is this. In the last 3,458 years of recorded human history, it has been calculated that there have been a total of 268 war-free years. That just what's been recorded. Let's not forget that prior to the 16th century, virtually nothing is known about North and South America. So in all probability, that number is likely much lower. Prostitution may be the oldest profession, but war is the oldest form of conflict resolution.

So what's the moral of the story? Should we just sit on our thumbs and wait until the bombs get bigger and bigger and eventually eradicate every last form of life on the planet? No. Is there anything we can do to prevent this from happening? Probably not. I believe we can prolong our existences by adopting a high-school mentality and just keeping our noses out of places that they don't belong. If the two exchange students want to kick the crap out of each other, let them go. If someone hurts you, hurt them back. If someone hurts your friend, wait until he asks for help, then kick some ass. It may not be peace, but if ignorance can be bliss, let us be blissful and ignore those things which do not pertain to us.
